The work of the Centre

Philosophy and Theology are text rich. The disciplines within each field require high quality skills in reading and interpretation. Textual studies lies at the heart of our work and defines us as a community of interpretation. It is not simply the presence of written text that distinguishes our work, but rather the interpretive quality of our engagement with text.

Our interdisciplinary approach to textual work not only relieves the common subject-isolation that separates one academic from another, it also brings academics into dialogue with the people from all social and professional spheres. We inhabit a world in which critical engagement with texts is relevant to everyone. The Centre provides a forum for public engagement at the highest level in the interpretation of texts that is essential to negotiating modern life

If there is one thing that defines textual studies, it is interpretation.
